A Day In The Life Of A Blade Of Grass Friday, August 21, 2009

So, this is the film my brilliant and funny 12 year old entered in a local film contest.  It was the first film he has ever done.  He did pretty much everything by himself, except Allen did what little editing was needed and recorded the music.  Yep.  Everything else was all Zane.   He didn’t win any awards but, there is always next year and the year after and the year after and the year after….

What I’m Accidentally Watching Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Okay, I admit it, I turned to NBC last night and, expecting Chuck, because I don’t always pay attention to what is supposed to be on, discovered the show Get Me Out of Here I’m a Celebrity.  I vaguely remember seeing the commercials and thinking how there was no way I would watch the show.  Whoops, I was wrong.  So, I maybe, sorta, accidentally watched the whole two hours last night.  It was great.  I didn’t MEAN to like it.  I didn’t expect to like it.  It was the funniest thing I have seen on t.v. in some time.  It was like Survivor but, with people who you vaguely remember from somewhere, and funny.  Did I mention it was funny? Yeah, it was.  Maybe that is what other reality shows have been missing.  All the celebrities are trying to win money for a charity of their choice.  There are obviously some people who I think are great right off the bat.  Like Frangela, a comedy duo I had never heard of consisting of two women named Frannie and Angela.  They found humor in everything and had great common sense advice.  Like ignoring people who act like kids and throw temper tantrums even if they are adults.  And, the people who I think are total and complete morons, like Spencer Bratt (No, that is NOT a typo.) and his puppet, I mean, wife.    I think it was the phrase about him and Heidi picking a couple of the biggest charities so that if or when they left and their charities didn’t get the money, it would be no big deal, that made me ALMOST change the channel.  Talk about self absorbed.  Wow.   It is a good thing those two keep telling the freaking camera how they recently became saved and saying crap like “Praise Jesus” or other similar phrases or we sure as hell (no pun intended) wouldn’t have a clue.  I read an article on Yahoo saying how it was horrible and had a bad viewing, ect., ect.   I think they were a little harsh.  I do see where it may not be able to hold my attention during a regular season when I have my “regular” shows to watch.  But, right now, everything is reruns and nature documentaries  I have seen before, or this show.  So, it looks like I MIGHT possibly be watching it.  I mean, I already accidentally watched the first show, so I might as well keep watching just to see what happens.  Like, who develops malaria first.  For more info about the show, like who all is on it ( I think it has an interesting diversity of celebrities.) and what all happened, check them out at nbc.com.

UPDATE: So, I watched, maybe one more episode before my schedule got too busy for it.  So, yeah, I don’t know what happened.  And, I don’t regret missing it or anything.  Ah, well, easy come, easy go.  Summer is here, I don’t have time for schedules anyway.

Free Food for Kiddos! Friday, May 29, 2009

Filed under: Family,General,homeschooling,Interesting...,Jaxon,Kids,Me,Texas — MidasWhale @ 7:43 am

So, I discovered, by accident, that there is a program put on by the state of Texas to give all kids under the age of 18 free meals during the summer.  Yep.  In my area, the kids can get a snack and a lunch with no hassle and fuss at area schools, all they need to do, is show up at the correct times.  You do not have to show proof of income or age.  And, you don’t have to register or get tickets to participate.  So, want to know if there is anything in your area of the state?  Go to www.SummerFood.org.  For some reason, it didn’t show anything when I searched for something within my city but, when I searched by county, it showed quite a few in my city.  Weird but, true.  I think this is a great thing for anyone with kids out there.  And, something I should tell everyone about!

Swimsuit Season is Nearly Here…Time for Your Tanning Implant! Friday, January 30, 2009

So, follow this link (http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/01/tan.html?npu=1&mbid=yhp) for an interesting article about a new drug implanted into your skin that stimulates your body to produce melanin.  So, say you are white and pasty and do not tan well, then you may be able to get this implanted in the future so you do not have to endure that pesky sunlight, or tan smear lines, or ditzy tanning salon employees ever again.  Well, or at least during the couple months it lasts.  Hey!  No more tan lines!  Um, yeah.  “This will not be a cosmetic drug,” Wolgen told a biotech trad publication last year. “I oppose systemic treatment for cosmetics.” What other uses would having a tan be for?  They say for people with lowered immune systems and genetic disorders that don’t allow them to go out in the sun.  But, wouldn’t them having a tan be JUST for cosmetic reasons?  I mean, is there another reason someone needs a tan?

Here is a video shot by Chris Lain from Pinnacle Tattoo.  It is from Pinnacle Tattoo’s Dia De Los Muertos Show at House of Rock on November 1, 2008.  As you will see, it is Allen’s band, Hobo, playing a cover of Beck’s Sissyneck.  It was a fun time.  And, while you’re watching, check out the dancers in the front!
