Jack said this on ’30 Rock’ last Thursday night.  It was too funny, and so true.

“Never go with a hippie to a second location.”

We recently found a new dentist that we love.  He actually went to school and graduated with my oldest cousin, Eugene.  Anyway, we discovered Zane had THREE cavities on permanent teeth.  How could this happen to me?  Uh…I mean, him.   This is a picture of Zane about to get his fillings.   I figured if it hurt real bad he wouldn’t want to have a cavity again and would take better care of his teeth.  The dentist, of course, wouldn’t go along with it.  However, anytime Zane was uncomfortable, I would tell him to remember that feeling next time he went to brush his teeth and brush extra good so he didn’t have to end up back there.  You know, come to think about it, maybe I wasn’t the best person to go with him.  His dad would have babied him and felt any pain right along with him.  I, however, sat in the corner reading my book and felt no pity at all for him.   Ah, parenting.

Allen and I went to see Willie Nelson this past Saturday at Concrete Street.  It is always fun to get out and do something, even more so when it is free.  The weekend before, Allen was in a golf tournament and won two movie tickets.  Then, some kid won a spa manicure and was really upset about it.  So, Allen traded him.  THEN, another guy won tickets to see Willie Nelson and was saying how he didn’t like country music so, Allen traded the spa manicure tickets for Willie Nelson tickets.  I was quite pleased with the outcome.  We had gone to see him last time he was in Corpus.  This time was WAY better.  He seemed to be in a really good mood and it showed in his performance.  Of course, we also had the awesome company of Dustin and Jenny Hackfeld Merle and Sue Bucker.  Hanging out with them always guarantees a great time.  (And, I’m not just saying that because they read my blog.)  Here is a picture Allen took with his cell phone.  Please note the wonderful quality and eye-catching detail.  Willie Nelson is there somewhere, I promise.

Here is super-funny comedian Jim Gaffigan talking about that amazing creation, bacon.

Okay, I do not know why but, the person who had posted this video took it off of youtube.  I can not find the same act but, I will find something else by him and post it at a later date.  Sorry.

Homeschooling update Thursday, October 18, 2007

Homeschooling is going okay.  Thanks for asking.  I taught Jaxon how to write his name.  So, it is official now, we aren’t going to make him stupid.  Zane has been breezing through everything we put in front of him, except the tests I have been making for him.  I think I have a gift for hard tests.  I imagine Zane thinks it is a curse, though.  But, so far so good.  At least, I think so and , really that is all that matters.

FOOD

So, Allen bought these frozen Tilapia fillets.  I was not optimistic about it.  I was so sure they were going to be not as good as the stuff we buy at the fish counter.  Naturally, I did not follow any of the directions on the bag.  I didn’t thaw it correctly.  Okay, not at all before I cooked it.  I really wasn’t expecting much.  But, it looked so pretty.  So, I took a picture.  I had coated it in oil, liberally coated it in fajita seasoning (my everything spice) and pepper, squeezed some lime juice on it, covered it in Italian bread crumbs, put some slices of lime on it and then, threw some left-over chopped up tomatoes on top for coloring.  I stuck it in an oven that wasn’t quite hot yet and forgot about it.  I made all the “extras” we had to go with it.  Then, took it out of the oven and, oh-my-freakin’-gawd, it was good.  And, it looked pretty, too.  I LOVE cooking.  Zane would like for me to mention my homemade chicken noodle soup at this time.  He is something of a chicken soup lover.  And he really liked my chicken noodle soup.  That I made.   From scratch.  And leftovers.  Myself.  Without a recipe.  I hear the applause in the empty bowls.

Leaf Pile Swimmin’ Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Filed under: Family,Fred,Funny,General,Jaxon,Kids,Nature,Our Backyard,Zane — MidasWhale @ 9:08 am

We have one tree in our entire yard, front and back, that sheds leaves in the fall.  Like, A LOT of leaves.  So, Zane, our always-ready-to-help-out-guy, has been raking them up into a large pile.  Well, yesterday, Allen taught them the joys of playing in a leaf pile.  I am sure they were bound to figure it out eventually, Allen just helped it along.  Here is them having fun.  There are more pictures at Flickr.
